The kewl trip!
Jun. 25th, 2006 10:37 amWell, managed to get hold of Edy just before she went to bed on Friday and sorted time to meet yesterday for the Manchester trip. Woke up early (7.40am), showered and dressed before having a slice of honeyed toast and a banana. Got to train station in plenty of time so had a browse at WHS and the new M&S Food hall there whilst awaiting for the rest of fellow adventurers (
edy_,
glitterybint, Erica, Claire and Bez) to arrive. Oh and my Paul came too so that was cool! :D
Got to Manchester and got the free bus to the nearest stop to the Science Museum although it takes another 10 mins walk (good thing it is flat!) as we had to go around a square to get to the main entrance. Museum is free except for the special exhibition. Saw a demo on cotton mill industry and it was really interesting to see the whole process of turning raw cotton into reels of cotton yarn and then weaved to cotton calico. The machinery was scary and looked dangerous plus the conditions of working in such mills in the 1800 was terrible! The gory tales of accidents and mortality rate of mill workers and children employed were rather eeky. We went to the Xperiment section and played with cool thing. Yup, pressing buttons and stuff! The museum is really really big and we didn't do all the stuff. The things we did see included some air and space stuff, engines and steam trains, the sewers and its history (um, yes....... eeky!), Gas and electric section and finally the planetarium (costs £1.50 each) which was very relaxing and fun too.
Had a very late lunch in Chinetown at International buffet which was pretty ok - they have sushi and sashimi at the buffet table! YUM! Browse and supermarket before heading back to train station to get train home. All were tired but happy! Good company and good trip, what more can I ask for! :)
Got home in time for Dr Who and we thought it was rubbish again. Had lots of cold drinks to rehydrate when we got home.
